Teaching Philosophy

VOICE LESSONS
Through the use of body movement, vocal exercises, ear training, and study of repertoire, Natalie's students learn healthy vocal technique that they can apply to singing many different styles of music. Students should be prepared to practice their songs and exercises often to get the most out of their vocal training. Repertoire is chosen based on what is appropirate for each individual student's voice (age, vocal range, experience, etc) and the technical concepts being addressed during lessons. Students may bring their own repertoire to lessons for help preparing for auditions, shows, and other singing opportunites. Voice students are encouraged (but not required) to study piano as well to further develop their musicianship skills.
Piano Lessons
Taking piano lessons is one of the best ways to not only learn to play a beautiful instrument but also to develop comprehensive musicianship skills. Natalie's students learn how to read and understand music on many levels as they develop their physical playing technique at the piano. Students should be prepared to practice their exercises and pieces often to get the most out of their lessons. Piano students have the opportunity to delve more deeply into music theory, arranging, composing, ear training, and challenging their skills at the keyboard as they develop their own individual musical interests. Students often choose to study and perform pieces from wide range of styles and genres including classical, jazz, pop, movies, and video games for recitals!
